Flying Circus Dates and Place

After lots of consideration, both Adam and I have decided to host next year's 7th Annual Flying Circus at Motown on February 5-7, 2010.

Originally we wanted to have it at the Francisco Grande, but they are building a HUGE sports complex right in the launch area. They offered to rent us a patch of dry, flat dirt about 1/2 to the west of the hotel, and both Adam and I were not impressed or excited about this option. Then Adam contacted a few Indian Hotel/Casinos in the area that look like they would have the space for flying operations but they were not able to accomodate us, saying the land is sacred. Might just be problems for people landing out and such.

The reality is that planning these events is a huge undertaking. And I think I speak for Adam and I know I speak for myself when I say that "we're burned out on all the work involved in putting on a large flying event." Spending lots of time a brand new resort to do it really does not interest either of us right now. And no one else has stepped up to offer help to make this happen.

So, we decided to make the Flying Circus a laid back, fun, relaxed camp and fly event out at MoTown this year. We will invite our PG and HG friends out because of the towing opportunities there. UL tug for HG and truck winch for PG. Many UL pilots know Motown and love to come out and join in the fun, same with GA guys. We figure the PPG numbers will suffer a bit with this decision but I bet we have quite a large group of pilots out there from all walks of light aviation. Also, the landscape is considerably more beautiful at Motown that the Francisco Grande.

So that being said, mark your calendars for the first Friday, Saturday and Sunday of February for the AZ Flying Circus/Mo Birthday PPG/PG/HG/UL/GA Extravaganza!
